Program Overview

The goal of this program is to educate the healthcare community about the close relationship between the thyroid and the heart, both at the molecular as well as the clinical level. Furthermore, the cardiovascular risk will be assessed based on evidence-derived publications.

Target Audience

Physicians and other healthcare clinicians who are interested in the role of the thyroid in the treatment of patients with heart failure.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how to diagnose thyroid dysfunction;
  2. Describe how to evaluate thyroid laboratory values;
  3. Discuss the pathophysiological mechanism of heart failure in thyroid dysfunction;
  4. Describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms of thyroid hormones in the heart;
  5. Explain the risk for heart failure in both sub-clinical and overt thyroid dysfunction.
